Why You Need to Change Your Air Filter

Posted in Air Conditioning, Efficiency, Summer

AC FilterWith Summer in full swing and some warm days behind us, it’s likely that you’ve been running your AC system for at least a month now.  You know what that means, right?  It means you need to change your air filter.

It’s important to change your air filter every 30 to 60 days for two reasons: It keeps your air clean and keeps your system running efficiently.  Here’s why:

Keeps Air Clean

Dust and particles get caught up in the air filter every time you run your system. Over the course of time mold and bacteria can also build up in the filter. These agents diminish the quality of the air in your home.

They also can be dangerous to your family’s health. Young children, those with allergies or asthma and elderly people are most susceptible to bad air quality. You also want to make sure the filter is new in order to keep those stubborn odors out of your home so you can enjoy your summer.

Keeps System Running Efficiently

A filter that is old and dirty is bad for your energy efficiency and thus will increase your utility bill. The filter is forced to work overtime to deliver cool air into your home. Your ducts also need to be tested to ensure that it air is being delivered into your home. A cracked duct will lead to air leaking into the attic or dead space between your ceiling and roof.  If your filter and ducts are bad, you are wasting even more energy.

Changing the filter maintains the purity as well as the airflow and will keep your family cool and healthy all summer long! We would love to help however we can, so if you have any questions give us a call at 800-994-2577.
