Smartphones and HVAC

Posted in HVAC Education

alps air conditioning, hvac orange county, hvac and smartphonesWe get really excited about technology, especially when it relates to HVAC.  Right now, there is incredible innovation in networking household items together.  This can be seen in products like the Nest Learning Thermostat, which was recently purchased by Google, and Smart TVs.

However, with all this innovation around creating a Network of Things, there is one central piece that controls this network – your smartphone.

A study released in 2013 by the Pew Research Center showed that 56% of US adults now have a smartphone, up from 46% in 2012.  Chances are you have a smartphone (you might even be reading this on your smartphone!), and you can now use that smartphone to control your HVAC system.

With just a minimal investment in a new thermostat (like the Nest Learning Thermostat), you can control the temperature of your home from wherever you have a connection on your smartphone.

Did you leave home in the morning and forget to turn the heater down?

Are you on vacation during a sudden spike in temperatures and need to turn the AC on to keep your pets cool?

Are you in bed on a cold morning and want to warm up the house before you get up?

You can do all of this simply with your smartphone.

As household items get networked together, your smartphone will be able to monitor and adjust them from wherever you are.  It truly is revolutionizing our industry, how HVAC systems are controlled and the roll they play in the home.
